Together with BrBio – the Brazilian Institute for Biodiversity, MARLIN offers two 1-month internships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
These internships blend scientific research with meaningful cultural exchange, offering a unique opportunity for students passionate about the ocean and conservation to grow both professionally and personally.
Participants will engage in hands-on research, environmental education, and community outreach. Interns will gain experience across a variety of settings—including academic research institutions, hospitality venues like hotels, and partner schools—providing a well-rounded, real-world perspective on conservation in action.

Possible tasks include:
- Participating in marine biodiversity surveys
- Assisting with data collection and analysis
- Supporting educational workshops and school programs
- Contributing to awareness campaigns focused on marine conservation and sustainable tourism
Among several key initiatives, students will become familiar with projects such as:
Projeto Ecorais, which monitors coral reef health and promotes marine conservation awareness in Armação dos Búzios
Projeto Coral-Sol, focused on studying and managing invasive coral species in Brazilian coastal waters
About BrBio
BrBio is a non-profit organization devoted to ocean literacy and marine and coastal conservation in Brazil. Since 2013, we have built a bridge between science and society, nurturing young ocean leaders and inspiring positive change through research, education, public policy, and cultural projects.
Through creative partnerships with schools, universities, and local communities, BrBio develops educational materials, teacher training, and field-based learning, resulting in innovative programs such as the “Environmental Carioca Passaport: Coastal Connection in action” and “Our ocean”, which engage students in hands-on conservation and foster a deep connection to Brazil’s unique marine ecosystems.
Our initiatives span a wide range of action, from scientific research and developing sustainable tourism guides in regions like Búzios and Rio de Janeiro, to mapping invasive species, organizing photography contests, and integrating marine science with art exhibitions and documentaries. BrBio is recognized by UNESCO as part of the Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve for its excellence and dedication.
